Re: wanted - 12" 8ohm driver

and sounding better with each outing as they break in! i got to run through a Genz Benz 2x12 (vertical) last Friday, was an interesting beast, bloody loud and very focussed but the frequencies were in all the wrong places for what i want to get, a lot of low-mid boom. plus i knew i should've zeroed ...

Re: wanted - 12" 8ohm driver

well i found that while SWR rated the beast @ 500w/4ohm, the speakers could only handle 300w RMS together. explains the driver death and the quite in-your-face tone it delivered. so i went the cheap route and grabbed a pair of 250w/8ohm drivers from Surplustronics ($210, also grabbed a discount too....

Re: wanted - 12" 8ohm driver

that's the problem - can't find the specs online. drivers are 1260-S, but that doesn't show up at all in any search. closest is SE1260 (same? later model?) but there again i'm failing to find any info on them. they're old drivers (1995 era) and i drive them damn hard so i'm also thinking of replacin...

wanted - 12" 8ohm driver

rats, i fried one of my 12" Bag End drivers in my Bigfoot last practice... :( kinda fun though watching the flashes of light through the ports as the amp went into thermal shutdown  has anyone got a 12" 8ohm driver they want to part with? failing that, where would i source a replacement Bag...

Re: How'd you start your love affair?

moved up to Auckland when i was 18, never touched an instrument prior (even tho growing up my dad could play the bugle, mum and one sister the piano, the other sister the trombone). watched Anthrax's "Through Time POV" documentary, got hooked by Scott Ian's cheshire cat smiles when he was playing li...

Re: Completely new to the bass world and have questions

here's something you can do cheaply in the interim - get yourself a Gripmaster. they're palm-sized things that allow you to build strength in your fingers, individually, and thumb and overall kung-fu grip. getting your fingers used to the extra pressure required to play bass strings (well, pressure ...

Re: Completely new to the bass world and have questions

don't forget how the instrument feels to play...if it's uncomfortable in any major way (well, it will be initially when you start, but some basses are sweeter than others) then regardless of tone it's gonna probably hamper your learning. scale length, nut width, string spacing, thumb/finger anchor p...

Re: The Gibson thunderbird...

the difference between an Epi and a Gibson is kinda like the difference between a "real" Jazz and a copy (or really near any copy vs original). sometimes it's subtle, sometimes it's glaring. choice of wood, construction method, electronics and overall build care the main areas. sometimes you find a ...

Re: Slapping ...

i can't slap to save myself, never have and probably never will. i don't think my brain is wired up the right way to do it. but i do end up with blood blisters above the knuckle on my thumb when i'm giving it a go (more like hitting the damn string than slapping it, but usually when i do it i'm afte...

Re: Microphone to a computer

you need a condenser mic to capture the level of nuance you need to look at anything in detail. that will need, in additional to a mic preamp, a preamp that can deliver 48v phantom power (to power the mic).

proel make a decent line of cables at a good price - get that shizen at Jansen. and proco (makers of the Rat pedal) make good'uns, i'm still using mine that came with my Rat back in '90 or thereabouts. otherwise if yr handy with a soldering iron, make yr own! :D if so, cable is pretty much cable; sp...

that's real real nice...a bit star trek, but nice. typical TC uber-cleanliness or does she sport some stubble?

programmable EQ looks like a winner!
