Re: Ampeg PF500 and fliptop cab.

Good luck with the gig -- sounds like a lot of fun. :D

Look forward to hearing your impressions.

Re: Speaker set-up

Just for your information, an 8 and a 4 ohm cabinet in parallel will give you 2.67 ohms, not 4 ohms, but still safe with your head. +1 to matching cabinets, and if you're not going to match, a 410 and a 115 is about as bad a pairing as you can make. Slightly less bad if the 115 is 8 ohms in this ins...

Re: 10's 12's and 15's.

So dispersion is why we don't have 10 meter, or even 1 meter, speakers? If it were a subwoofer, dispersion wouldn't be an issue, but the cost of making a useful speaker of this size (with a cone that could support its own weight, for example), would be far higher than having multiple smaller driver...

Re: New BFM Jack 12

Thanks GrowlerBox. Next time I'm in Welly, and if I have room in my car, I'll bring down the J115 - just for your opinion. Should be in a week or two as I have a contract at Bowen Hospital. That'd be fun! And I'm flattered that you're interested in my opinion. If you're coming anyway and ...

Re: New BFM Jack 12

Glad someone else has tried them! I can vouch for the gruntier driver, and (I think) a slightly updated cabinet design -- there's a bit more bass extension (which will be better still with a pair, I imagine). I'd been thinking about a second (or even a fEARful, which Harley's also building), but now...

Re: Microphone to a computer

You need a mic preamp to raise the signal output from the mic and some sort of audio interface to convert that into a digital signal usable by your computer, which are most easily obtained in a single box connected via USB or Firewire to your computer, and into which you can also plug headphones, ex...

Re: New lead time

Cheers guys. Does anyone then know anywhere in Wellington that would stock these sorta brands? There's a guy in Upper Hutt, whose name escapes me, who carries some of the same stuff as Jensen; he's all over TradeMe, so not too hard to find. You mentioned the EWI cables -- I have a couple and they'v...

His upright playing is just as pyrotechnic(al) -- check out Wood and Wood II. Incredible stuff.

Re: Ashdown little giant

Ashdown will be releasing their new micro amp in a few months -- looks to have a similar EQ section to the LG, and interestingly puts the same power (220 or 550 W, IIRC, depending on the model) into whatever impedance it's shown. The brief clips I heard sounded pretty good. The lame bits are the nam...

Re: Slap bass and volume

Any ideas? I think a half decent compressor would be a good idea in your situation. The built compressors on the amps that have them are generally not very tweakable (see the thread linked to above). I don't slap much, well not in the way you mean (I play an EUB), but I do find my Seymour Duncan Do...

Re: Electric Upright Bass

This is something of a resurrection, but I'm having a lazy afternoon... I might be the poster of the thread mentioned above, having bought an NS Design from Pete McGregor last year. There's no comparison with the cheap models (Stagg, Aria, etc). And not only with respect to the price  . Unfor...

If you can manage the first two, the next two should follow pretty much automatically!

New BFM Jack 12

Took delivery on Monday evening of a brand spanking new BFM Jack 12 built (and delivered!) by our very own Harley. There are some pictures in the Custom Shop forum of the build and finished product. I had it out at its first gig last night (Meow in Wellington), and thought this would be a good time ...
