Re: Rockshop website survey ...

Done! I didn't put it on the survey, but a really useful figure would be a large 'panic' button on every page that you could hit to bring up the image of a spreadsheet - useful when our significant others walk into room and find us looking at more expensive music gear We were just talking about thi...

Re: The Ten Commandments of Bass ...

Interesting that a former staff member said that number 6 is wrong. A 6 string is two lower strings. A B and an F# ... but I've always thought that 6 strings were a low B and a high C.

The ones we have in stock certainly are.

The Ten Commandments of Bass ...

Sure you have all seen this ... but thought it might give you a smile ... The Ten Commandments of Bass.... #1 "Thou shalt not *BANNED* up the groove. *BANNED* up the notes if thou must, but not the groove." #2 "Thou shalt not lust after thy guitar player's part. Rockshop GEAR Magazine ...

Hi guys, Haven't been here in awhile due to being stupid busy at work. However, I post over NZG a bit and was going to extend an offer that I made over there, here. We have our new print run of the April/May GEAR magazine arrived now and if anyone wants one I am happy to mail one to any BPNZ user th...

Re: Slapping ...

You shouldn't be using your knuckle when slapping, it's more the outside "meat" at the top of the thumb. Even then, you don't really need to strike the string all that hard to get the sound. I'd say just pull it back a bit in intensity and try to strike the string higher up on your thumb! lol ... I...

Slapping ...

... so I don't slap. But when I was 17 and at Rockquest, we did a song that had the most basic of slap on it. In fact, it's really even slap. Anyways, 20 years later we decided we wanted to record it ... so we did that last night. But not being a regular slapper, my thumb knuckle started killing me....

Re: Classic Bass player moment ...

I think my worst moment was at Rockquest ... we were the judging band which meant we played whilst the judges deliberated. We were actually a Rockquest band still at high school but they thought our material was strong enough, and the national final was in ChCh so they thought they would get half of...

Classic Bass player moment ...

... I just saw this on NZG and laughed my butt off. Listen to the bass player at 0:38secs. He goes for a wander when he hits the wrong note. And unless I am very much mistaken ... he banks on the same wrong note being the next right note, but is wrong again. I didn't watch past that, because I was s...

Re: Top bass lines of all time ...

I've come to two conclusions thanks to this thread and my idea ... 1 - I am not musically travelled as I thought I was. 2 - I am not as musically gifted as I thought I was. Honestly, some of these bass lines make me want to give up. I don't slap, so let's rule them out, but I thought I could finger ...

Re: Top bass lines of all time ...

Wow ... cool list so far. I should have called the thread 'stand out bass lines' or 'bass lines of note' rather than top bass lines. I am surprised that everyone like the Sade suggestion ... usually when I mention it people's eyes just glaze over. I must be amongst kin. I was trying to find somethin...

Top bass lines of all time ...

Guys, I've had a quick look through the forum but can't see where you guys have fought tooth and nail, and shed blood in quest for the top basslines of all time. I've been kicking around an idea of writing a book ... so I am doing some research on bass stuff that influenced people. I write a bit (an...
