I think those perspex Dan Armstrong guitars had sliding pickups, too.

You could just snap in a new pickup and move it up and down the body. Not sure if they ever made a bass though.

Re: Anyone G.A.S free?

I must strike myself off the list. I've recently decided that I want a small busking amp so I can take my acoustic bass and go well... busking. There's a discontinued battery powered Vox that I tried the other day and should do the trick.

Re: Acoustic basses

The guy at the shop said you don't put heavy gauge on an acoustic. But he would not be the first shop guy to misinform.... Interesting... I'd never thought about that. I normally use phosphor bronzes, and they don't come in a wide range of gauges, so the problem's never really come up. At one stage...

Re: Unusual techniques

I like it too. I think I understand why you are a chordal player. Since I have just resonantly bought an ABG, I realize it is kind of voiced between a guitar and a bass. I would be quite keen to hear some more of your stuff in a band situation, Vince Ok... well, this was about 10 years ago, that's ...

Re: Pick problems...

I normally use the Jimmy Dunlops, either 0.88s or 1mm ones. Lately, though, I've been using some green ones with a turtle on them, whatever those are.

Re: Loopers

They're definitely fun. I think the biggest challenge (at least for me) is stepping away from the "add one tiny overdub after another until you have a dozen things happening at once" thing because that's what most people do. A friend of mine does that multi-layered thing, but she uses the looper for...

Re: Loopers

I have one, I think it's an RC-20 XL. It's not bad but one thing I *don't* like is that it only removes the latest layer. So you do one layer you add a second layer you add a third and if you want to remove layer #2, you have to remove #3 first. Not really into loopers. It just feels so... lonely. :...

Re: Show us your pedals

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h272/kramer_ferrington_iii/pedalboard.jpg I still have to assemble this. That's a Boss DD3, an old and "distressed" Tubescreamer, an Acoustic Xciter, a George Dennis Panner (it pans the sound between two amps) an El Cheapo Daphon volume pedal, an RC-20 Looper, a Ge...

I've heard that you really DO need an amp for those, but if you're in a car, you can rig something up so you can plug into the car stereo. Maybe through a Pod or something. That would definitely be fun.

Re: Acoustic basses

Somebody has one at my wife's work. Haven't gotten around to ingratiating myself so I can bludge a go.

I've heard nothing but good things about them. Apparently what the strings lose in length they gain in thickness?
