Re: Thoughts on a new rig

Combos are great too, including the Ampeg combos available at the Rockshop. I have a Trace Elliot quad combo from the 90s which is outstanding, and it has an extension speaker output which i had put an 18 inch sub on for extra boom / volume. However i have noticed there are not too many combos desig...

Re: Thoughts on a new rig

Hey there, welcome to the forum. It depends on how loud you need to be. There are a pair of Ampeg SVT 210AVs on Trademe at the moment which could provide you with options (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1330193340) + you would still need to find an amp. I have found that the light w...

Re: WTB - Vintage basses: Wal, pre-Ernie Ball Stingrays, G&L and Fender

Hey there, it has just arrived in Auckland this morning. It has taken ages to get here. It was shipped from Germany on the the 5th and no updates since the 8th April up until this morning - around 2 weeks without any updates. I was starting to wonder what had happened. Now that it is in NZ, i hope t...

Re: What's hot on Trademe right now!

Rob posted a pic of his new / second hand 4 string Wal fretless to the Wal FB page - it looks great. That 6 string that he traded it for also looks wonderful too - i think it was a prototype 6 String Wal and was 36 inch scale if i remember correctly? Anyways enjoy your up and coming lessons with Rob...

Re: Seeking tutor in DUNEDIN

Can anybody recommend a good Bass tutor in Dunedin? specifically seeking someone competent in Jazz (Reading chord charts) Not sure about any bass tutors in Dunedin. Are you specifically interested in theory (i.e reading chord charts) because if you are, then a theory teacher might be more what you ...

Re: WTB - Vintage basses: Wal, pre-Ernie Ball Stingrays, G&L and Fender

Bump. It has been around four months since i bought a bass - for me that is a looonggg time. The only thing i have bought in that time (other than bass strings) has been a Hellborg Preamp (i am still really liking this preamp). If you have anything USA Fender (including CS), MM Stingray, G&L and of ...

Re: Noise gate / supressor pedal?

Noisegates are great. I have one on my Rane DC24 Compressor and it gets rid of those annoying hissing sounds coming from my Jazz bass. I do agree you need to find the sweet spot with them because too much of it can ruin your bass tone.

Re: Car Accident - should I claim?

Depends on if there is any other damage to the amp - i would get a tech look over it to see if there is any other damage and then decide if it is worth it. If it were me and the amp only had a small and almost un-noticeable dent and no other damage / problems, i wouldn't take the matter to the insur...

Re: Playing ampless in small venues

It seems that amp-less is becoming more common, including with big bands too. I subscribe to Premier Guitar (Youtube channel) and watch their rig rundowns with international bands / musicians and you see them using Kempers, Fractal Axe effects, in-ear monitors and no amps or cabs when they tour - se...
