Re: Looking for speaker suggestions
Welcome to the forum! A rip in the cone shouldn't stop all sound, unless the cone is completely detached from the coil. It will likely sound bad, especially at higher volumes. You should be able to measure the coil with an ohm meter, though it won't necessarily measure out at the ohm rating of the s...

So many menus were open, it was hard to read your note!
Clearing cache fixed it though!
Cheers!

Re: Rackmounted preamps
Yeah, I'd wonder why as well.
But since you asked, I'm kinda partial to the SansAmp RPM, I've got a couple and use them with a PA amp. I've got a SansAmp RBI too, it's great as well, but I kind of like the sound of the RPM just a bit better...

Re: Cheapest place to buy bass strings?
I used to buy from these online places when I was in the States: http://www.juststrings.com/ http://www.bassstringsonline.com/ Easy to deal with and good prices. 'Course being in NZ, shipping might be an issue. I don't know if they ship directly, but if not you can always use the NZ post's "YouShop"...

Re: Compressor choice
I use the Rane DC-24 too, great unit! Unfortunately, they are no longer made so you have to find one used somewhere such as ebay. Most were made for the US and so will have a 120V transformer. They used to sell a 240V transformer, but ran out of those several years ago. But, you can get transformers...

Yes, very sad news today, Chris Squire lost his fight with Leukemia. The world has lost another one of the greats and one heckuva nice guy!

Re: Where can I buy nitrocellulose lacquer in NZ?
I don't know if anyone has checked (I most certainly have not), but Nitro Lacquer was/is the "official" classic car finish and so, it would seem likely to be able to find it in places that specilaise in automotive paints. Now, modern automotive paints are more likely to be acrylics or urethanes, so ...

As a mechanic BMW stands for "Bring My Wallet" Agricultural is a term I like to use to explain such principles of design and operation, glad it stirred some memories cjj . And what BMW puts the filter in the sump ? Yet to strike that model yet... just as well by the sound of it. BMW K series, ...

Re: My Latest Obsession and Reason
OK, so Harley puts things in weird places, so does BMW. Like, putting the oil filter INSIDE the oil sump!  Luckily, they have a special cover on the sump to get to it, but still!!! "Agricultural" LOL, what a great term! Reminds me of SO many things I had to deal with back when we were ...
