Re: thinking about having a break or changing bands

Bassicly, we play because we love to play and should do till we die( Its in your blood, your ancestors were probably musos) - if its no fun anymore don't do it - gigging is also a good opportunity to get relief in the knowledge that the issues you get with your wife are not yours alone and fellow ba...

All hail Jimmy Blanton

Jimmy Blanton - innovative bass player with Duke Ellingtons group - one of the first to take the role of bass beyond the quarter notes.Check out the tribute album Duke put together in Blantons honor (Jimmy Blanton died age 23 from T.B). Fodera Emperor 5 Standard

Ok, you've seen them and their price tag. Has anyone here tried one? The Emperor standard gives me gas, but only if I won lotto.

Chris Squire R.I.P.

Chris Squire passed on June 27 2015 aged 67. One of my childhood inspirations (my first bass was a black Rickenbacker). Definitley changed the perception of bass guitar. Saw him at the Hammersmith Odeon with the "Yeggles" in 1980.

Re: Downsizing my rig - anyone done it?

Ceramic vs Neodymium

I read the "Downsizing rig" thread and thought of the new light weight neo speakers. Never tried them personally but I have a heavy 4x10 cab and think about switching often. Any comments or comparisons to aggravate/ reduce my GAS for lighter rig?

Re: Weird 'gig cancellation' reasons

Wedding gigs can get cancelled if the 'couple to be' get cold feet or get seen in the office with someone else.

Re: BASS / AMP PICTURE THREAD :: Get your cameras ready!

Wow!, a Jansen Bassman 25, amazing. The first amp I ever bought. From Farmers in Hobson street in 1971 for $199 - fantastic amp. All dials up full and it never blew. Well done bok007.

Re: Indoor and outdoor NZ venues

Kings Arms in Auckland - intimate venues are best. Or... Any venue that pays well, has free food and drink, and is just around the corner from my place.

If you get enquiries for potential gigs a video is hard to beat for clients getting the best idea of what their hiring, on the the other hand it could put them off entirely

Re: Beginner Bass Questions

Covers or Originals or a mix? Country OR Western or jazz? Narrow down your target crowd - even hire a hall and do something informal, I dunno but if you do want to gig you will. RSAs do jazz, country or rock's' roll evenings - book a hall and invite your mates to cover costs, Ask 95 BFM for potentia...
