Re: A half decent bass amp under $1k?

I've always found Peavey to be great bang for buck. Having used them for years, I only moved away because their stuff is so damn heavy, although bullet proof.

Re: fender

I bought my P new in 1972. I've had or played just about every other marque on this planet, but the Fender has stayed with me and will 'till I die. FWIW, the worst bass I've ever owned was a 1964 Hofner which I bought new when I thought it was cool to be like Macca. Total POS.

Re: fender

I wish the bassist in my band would get a Fender, or even a Squier. He's an Ibanez fanboi and plays with a thin pick 100% of the time and his tone is simply dreadful, but he says his Ibanez feels right to him and I guess that's what counts. Thing is, the drummer and I are both bassists and we're als...

Re: fender

I agree with Rog, any P/J Fender combo has been shithouse just by one of each avoid Jp-90 at all costs Reuben's right - I had a JP-90. I swapped out every component and tried all sorts of strings, but it was impossible to get it to sound like a Fender. Beautiful neck to play on though. I have my st...

Re: fender

My 2c: I'm a Fender man and love the marque. That said, I've owned and played a very good sample of Fender basses for many years. The ONLY ones which have failed to live up to my expectations of 'that Fender sound' have been P/J combinations. I shun playing them and certainly will never buy another....

Hi Jim I can see your house from here! LOL, actually I'm at Foxton Beach and can see the Sth Island, so that's close enough, right? Re your comment about country clubs, it seems in the provinces that that is where most of us old musos end up because they're fast becoming the only gigs in town. RSA/C...

Re: What's hot on Trademe right now!

Hi nonohmic.

Interesting to see another player opting to drop the extra string. I went 5 for a year or two before realising that I can do anything I want with 4 strings and its a damn sight more comfortable on my old hands to use the thick neck. I also tried a 6, but that was just ridiculous for me.

Re: Markbass v Genz Benz........

I've had most of the usual gear over the years, but with the GB S6.0 and 210T cab I have found a sound that suits me perfectly. I can't believe the deep bass I can get from this tiny gear.

Re: Ampeg SVT in Auckland

A 300W all valve amp should NOT need DI or mic.
If you can't hear that over the band and halfway round Auckland, you've forgotten to turn the standby switch on.

BTW - psssst - Marty is older than me and he came on Captain Cook!!

(I came on Captain Hobson)

Re: Don’t Stop Believin’ TUTORIAL – Solo Bass Party Trick

I had to google 'don't stop believing' to find out what the song was. Never even heard of it before. Not fussed if I never hear it again, either.

Josh is good though!

Have you considered the Gallien Krueger MB150?
For quiet gigs up tight stairs, perfect for jazz.
