Time to check in

Bass confession time. Bless me bassfathers, it's been a few years since I last checked in...did I miss anything...?

Hope you've all been behaving and Santa got you something nice for Christmas.

Re: P-Bass - right first time

So many bassists have been conditioned to look for the sound of a Fender because they were so dominant on recordings that were being broadcast at the time. Fender managed prolific output and dominated the market in the 60's. The woods were chosen for ease of supply and manufacture, not tone. The bod...

Re: Downsizing my rig - anyone done it?

I downsized to a class d head and two 1x12 cabs and I haven't looked back. I have even started taking just one of the 1x12s to gigs with pa support and have been surprised I could get away with it Me too, two Greenboy f112 cabs with the tiltback profile so the cones are pointed up at me. They are 2...

Re: Anyone G.A.S free?

The only thing I would like, and I know it aint gonna happen, is a Greenboy 1x12 Fearful cab, so it doesn't count as GAS.... does it? Yep. I have two and they're recommended. I've sold off a whole load of gear this year and haven't missed any of it yet. I'd sell off a couple more items if the inter...

Re: Buying Basses in NZ

I left NZ in March last year after four years being over here and previously having been educated here. I bought only one bass - a Steinberger XL25A which was imported for US$2500 plus shipping. The price of new basses in NZ is extortionate but the retailers don't sell a very high volume of stuff so...

Re: Pre or Post eq

If you are using FOH support, the signal should always be taken pre-EQ. The reason is that if the eq on the amp has been used to compensate for onstage acoustic issues, the engineer will have to compensate for your compensation that before he can get a decent FOH sound. Much simpler for him/her to s...

Re: What's hot on Trademe right now!

If anyone spots a genuine 70's jazz bass bridge for sale, I'd be extremely grateful for a heads up. I missed out on one for 25 bucks shortly before I bought a '75 JB with a badass. The badass is too tall for low string action.

Re: Tobias Growler

I tried this, its more than a match for a stingray. In fact it's a little warmer and smoother sounding than a new stingray even. I'd definitely consider a 5 stringer for a gigging bass.

Its the best fretless on the planet. Some come close but none do it with the same drama.

Re: Christchurch Bass Day 27 MAY

Well there's a couple of things to bear in mind here. In the event there is a tsunami resulting from a local seismic event, you may not get a warning. http://www.ccc.govt.nz/homeliving/civildefence/informationondisastershazards/tsunami.aspx New Brighton IS a VERY vulnerable area. The fact that its a...

Re: Christchurch Bass Day 27 MAY

What I've seen so far is everyone getting in a tizz about the amount of damage but at the same time forgetting about the probabilities. The modelling has also been carried out based on the worst possible case scenario - a 1 in 50 year tsunami from the worst possible place (somewhere off the coast of...

Ah ye say that but have ye home and contents insurers considered global warming and tsunami risk in addition to earthquakes...?

Re: What's hot on Trademe right now!

If anyone spots a 70's Jazz bass with a maple neck and block inlays for a good price, I'd be grateful if someone could let me know. I do look but only when I have the time. Trademe doesn't send notifications for some reason.
