Re: Where can I buy nitrocellulose lacquer in NZ?

I got some in a spray can from a paint store here in Dunedin. I'll find the product name for you when I get home.

Re: My Latest Obsession and Reason

Yeah, sorry to hear about your brother.

I had road bikes in the 80s/90s. Still wish I did on nice sunny days. Maybe it is time for another mid-life crisis  Post some pics

Re: Guitar repairer/luthier in Dunedin

Steve Barkman is my go-to guy. His workshop is in Broad Bay so a little out of town. I can find his number if you want it. There is a another guy who works out of downstairs in the Dunedin Rockshop. I've never used him, but friends who have had some work done by him have been happy. Just gonto the R...

Re: Teaser - next project

To give an idea of perspective, here it is with the neck sitting in place. Probably a little hard to see the pencil line in this one, but hopefully enough to get the idea

Re: Teaser - next project

Finally made some decisions about the body, and cut the timber! This is gluing the two halves together to make the body blank.

Re: Teaser - next project

Somewhat overdue for an update. Haven't had too much time to work on the neck over summer, but have finished shaping the neck and just down to the fine sanding. I have sealed the neck with shellac and oiled the fingerboard, so it now looks pretty much what it will be like when finished. The shellac ...

Ohhh - nice Foal. Feeling a little Tobias envy. Now you just need an MTD 535 and you are set.

Ohhh, nice bass Foal. The pickups are easy to change, just comes down to if you can find a set of originals pickups - assuming you wanted to get back to original. Are you going to bid?

Re: Teaser - next project

I was afraid someone was going to ask that. I modelled the neck on my Vintage Modified fretless Jazz which I reall like. The fretboard radius is 9.5 inches and it has the skinny little 39mm width at the nut. The neck is a little bit deeper than I planned. The fretboard wood is really nice so m...

Re: Teaser - next project

Onto the most terrifying and fun bit to date - shaping the neck. This has all been done with a rasp to take it down close to where I want it, a file to smooth off and a tidy up with sandpaper. I've used a technique called faceting. I bevelled each side at 45 degrees getting close to the depth I want...
