My fav bass that I'm playing at the moment is this neato red Les Paul copy bass, appears to be Japanese, from the 70's The thought is that it's a Kasuga.
I scored it from Onehunga Cash Converters a few years ago and a it's a great little player. Super easy to play, good variety of sounds, loud, full.
And great looks.
You can find some good short scale basses that came out of japan in the 70's.
The Epiphone EB0 is another nice lil shortscale bass.
Great look, easy to play. A little neck-heavy though. One big neck pickup that throws out a big, booming sound.
