Post by hestan » Mon Mar 29, 2010 9:10 pm

Hey guys,

Check out this short video lesson i've done, based on Pino Palladino's grooving and a couple of his trademark fills with D'Angelo.

Let me know what you think... And drop me a line if you've any requests for mini style files of other players?

happy grooving,

Johnny Copland :D

Dion Dublin

Voodoo is a mighty fine record. I like the cover of the R.Flack(?) cut too.
are you from basschatuk? Thinking I have seen you before Comrade.

Hey foal,

Yeah - I'm originally from Basschat. Based in London here as a bassist at the moment.

Liked your Dion nod. - he's a legend - love his yellowjackets and weather report!

best,

J

Baktihi Khumalo - Mini Style File

Post by hestan » Tue Apr 06, 2010 1:40 am

Hi guys,

Here's the second in my mini style file series I'm doing - Bakithi Khumalo with Paul Simon. It's a bit of a boot strap affair - did this on the road away from my studio (bass in left channel only etc... ), but hope you enjoy. Also, can anyone let me know if they have trouble viewing this video - there might be a issue with WMG over the audio copyright on YouTube.

Again, any more requests let me know.

Happy Grooving,

Johnny Copland

Dion was not a legend getting amongst it against my beloved Gunners years back.
is he a bassplayer as well as a genuine #9?

Hey guys,

Here's my latest style file, requested by quite a few people that tuned in to the previous ones. Paul Turner's funky bass playing on the Jamiroquai track "Starchild" from 2005's "Dynamite".

TAB & score on the site. Hope you enjoy:

Cool song...Thanks for posting. Fun to play. But I play it a bit different from you.
Kind of funny, I have been playing that LP quite a bit lately

Hi guys,

Here's this weeks bash, a look at my fav 16 bars from Marvin Gaye's 1971 "what's happening brother"... - it's not in the 'standing in the shadows of motown' book.

Have fun and hit me with any questions, queries or complaints! :-)

Hi guys,

Here's another style file.

http://www.johnnycopland.com/?p=275

It's a great 16th note funk groove from Incognito's track 'talkin loud' from the 1994 album 'positivity'. On bass, one of the UK's heaviest groovers, randy hope taylor.

part 2 coming next week ;)

ps - anyone know if it's possible to merge all my threads into one place?

cheers,

J

'90s UK Funk
did you listen to Galliano?
I have an album of theirs that is quite cool, even with an appearance of that cat from the Style Council
the cut 'Jus Reach' has a good, solid, funk bassline.
must dig it out

according to the sleeve notes bass guitar is:
Ernie McKone

his part on "Jus Reach" reminds me of Leland Skalar's monster riff on Billy Cobham's Stratus
