My latest purchase is a 70s Kasuga Rickenbacker bass. It is one of two random basses i bought recently (the other random bass purchase has been a Yamaha RBXJM2). Anyways here are pics of the Kasuga ric:

I am surprised that they are actually very nice basses to play and sound pretty good too. I have pulled this bass apart and taken pictures of all the parts and serial numbers and it seems to be all original. Makes me wonder how much i will actually play this bass when it is competing for my attention from another 10 + other basses.

Yep it is a six string bass. I only usually play four string basses, but i bought it because of the Dream Theater live at Budukan DVD - John Myung played a RBXJM2 bass on it and the tone was awesome. Here are a couple of pics of it:

Bronzet, that's very cool. The three knob Rays sound way better than the later four knob ones. The best bass I ever heard in my life was a three knob Ray with black tapewound strings. If it had of been for sale I would have sold my children to buy it.

Yeah, i wasnt sure what to expect with the Ric. I am a finger player and i couldnt see where i could anchor my right / plucking hand at first. I found that because of the thick pickguard, i could anchor my thumb on the edge of the pickguard above the location of neck pickup, and i found it very comfortable. People also told me that it is near impossible to slap / pop on rics because of the neck pick up being in the way. However, i found this to be untrue also. I was also surprised to find out the rics are 33 1/4 inch scale as it doesnt feel shorter than the standard 34 inch scale. Overall i really like Rics now. I have a set of D'Addario FlexSteels on them and it has this great grinding / punchy tone that i like. I am now wanting to find an early model 4001. Not sure how long it might take to find a good one, but i am patient :)

I totally agree. The tone of the Pre-EB MM Stingrays with the two band EQs are great. Very punchy and cuts-through-the-mix like tones. I am very pleased with the bass. It isn't too heavy neither. I have bought a few too many basses this year, and i am still on the lookout for more stuff. What am i going to do? lol

Your Rick is the splitting sister of my 2011 mapleglo, Bronze. I bought mine mint from from someone who was using it in a jazz band - can still remember him saying to me "You will never get lost in the mix playing this." How right he was.
Just returned from collecting that Fender Stu Hamm Urge Signature bass that was on TradeMe. I rather promised myself I would stop this habitual collecting and thought I was "cured", but two in two months means I might need to go back in therapy at bass players anonymous  :)
Stilll really digging the custom shop relic 64 jazz I got for a song though.
Cleaning up the Stu Hamm at the moment, all works as it should. I have always been intrigued by the possibilities of j/p/j pickups in combination with active/passive switching. Tonal possibilities are pretty big although a bit of tweaking to do as the p is currently much louder than the js. 32" scale a novel change but I would have been happy either way.

Can't believe no-one has been buying any basses for a while, so I'll throw a cat amongst the pigeons. I picked up a little Roland JD-Xi keyboard which includes an analogue bass synth. Haven't figured out exactly how I would use it yet, but in spite of its small size, it has a huge bottom end. Plus it has all synth goodness of the eighties captured in other patches!

Here you go Foal! I've been keeping this beauty under wraps for a couple of weeks. It is an MTD Kingston Z4 that I got for a bargain - new but very slightly damaged from the Rockshop via Trademe (thanks Dave!). I've fixed a ding, although it is still visible - it is the light dot in a straight line out from the bridge pickup on the upper side (purely cosmetic). Mahogany body with maple burl top, maple neck and wooden pickup covers. It is incredibly light and comfortable to play.
