Turn My Baby Bass Into A Ubass:- Help Needed.

Post by mickeyj4j » Wed Mar 15, 2017 8:12 am

Hi all I was recently given back my old Samick Baby Bass. Was thinking of doing some project mods but not gotten round to it, it's been sitting here since November.

Bass: Samick Baby Bass
Model: 8110352
Pickup: P style
Length: 660mm (from nut to back of bridge plate)
440mm (From nut to 21st fret)
Case: Has a standard hard case.

This bass is in fairly good condition for its age. Comes with a standard hardcase in good condition.

This bass will not fit standard short scale bass strings I have made always made a custom set of E=80 A=60 D=40 G=20.
I have decided as this bass is only slightly bigger than a ubass I am going to use it to make one.
1. Set of wound ubass strings
2. Add a piezo pickup or piezo bridge

Then I could wire it up several ways.
1. Use the existing controls and add a 3 way selector switch.
2. Use a 2nd jack and volume pot for piezo.
3. Wire it up to a stero jack and can use a
a. Stereo/trs to single mono cable>amp/channel
b. Sterio/trs a to split mono cable>2 amps/channels.
4. Have a separate jack for each
a. Each pickup goes to its own amp/channel
b. use a double to mono cable>1 amp/channel blend on bass
C. Each pickup goes to Boss Ls-2 Line Selector>1 amp/channel

What do you all think of this idea. I know there are threads on ubass and how to add piezo pickups to electric basses I will be researching these too.
