From the EJ album 11/17/70, an awesome bass album, live, with just piano, bass, and drums.

awesome mate, I was hoping you would see this.
I'm off to get that album... I heard the cut on the radio and thought it's only a three piece...hand it up to Elton for backing his rhythm section.

That's great. It's a fantastic album, see if you can find the remastered version which has an extra song(Amoreena). The album cover is black with a white silhouette of EJ.

I have recently taken to learning alot of Jamiroquai stuff....and Stewart Zender is THE MAN. Dude keeps it simple...that song "When you gonna Learn" is an excellent study in how something so simple and clean can really make a song.

My all time fav is Marcus Miller, but really dig people like Wooten, Jaco, Clarke, Ray Brown, Brian Bromberg (although I feel he overplays a little), Alain Caron, John Pattitucci, Randy Hope-Taylor (I learn't so many Incognito bass lines at high school they are great!), Tal Wilkenfeld (is she Jaco's reincarnation???) Otiel Burbridge, Oscar Cartaya (spyro gyra), Charlie Haden, Eddie Gomez (upright monster - just listen to any Bill Evans and you will know)....and the unknown Vail Johnson (played with Kenny G - check out his solos in the 'kenny g live' video or cd).

Hell, all bass players are great really!

Hmm, this is a toughie. Let's see:
Jimmy Garrison (John Coltrane Quartet)
Ron Carter (everybody)
Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath)
Duff Mckagen (Guns N Roses)
Cliff Burton (Metallica)
Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
James Jamerson (Motown session bassist)
Norman Watt-Roy (Ian Dury and the Blockheads)
Bootsy Collins
Peter Hook (New Order)
Lou Barlow (Dinosaur jr)

That's a few of my fav bass players at the moment.
Not necessarily technically amazing players but they all have nice taste/style/choice of notes.
