All hail Jimmy Blanton

Post by ryla » Sat Jul 11, 2015 11:38 am

Jimmy Blanton - innovative bass player with Duke Ellingtons group - one of the first to take the role of bass beyond the quarter notes.Check out the tribute album Duke put together in Blantons honor (Jimmy Blanton died age 23 from T.B). The tribute album ("This ones for Blanton") is a fine Duet recording of Duke and Ray Brown with a great 20 minute finale Duke put together especially for the album called "Fragmented suite for piano and Bass" in 4 movements.
Check it out.
