Does Ronald la Pread (ex Commodores)count?

he knows his stuff instrument wise too... great looking and sounding Steinbergers for that man. I can't for the life of me remember the name of his NZ band. shame on me.

"Young girls are my weakness" may have the most suspect lyrics in History, but Easy, Brick House, Sanctified, Fancy dancer etc all have good feels, bite in the riffs, and do enough to get you up.

eerm, Dancing.

Bones Hillman also played in "the Swingers', and what was that punk band?, Suburban reptiles .or somi' else, I felt he was quite ordinary at first (although it is mandatory to play poorly when playing punk), but he has definatly blossomed into a quality act make "no bones" about that!

Kenny Pearson

Post by ryla » Tue Sep 04, 2007 10:22 am

kenny Pearson - electric bass player extraordinaire and educational mentor to alot of sucessful kiwi musicians including Dan Sperber, also great on upright, taken from us too soon, his star was very much rising and was a knockout performer with Frank Gibson jr and Murray McNabb, Kenny features on one of Murrays cds (im sure theres alot of recordings featuring him)- required listening for local bass nuts, Kenny died returning from a gig one evening as a nutter came the wrong way up the motorway, we all know how dangerous returning home from gigs can be - check out what kenny did for bass playing in New Zealand. Unfortunatly i have little info on the man other than seeing him in performance on a few occasions, - anyone out there with more on Kenny please post so bass players here can check out his work.

For me i think Brent Fox (ex 8 Foot Sativa) has to be in the top 10 NZ bassists....
Old Brent. Also worth a mention for the time he drank a whole bottle of Johnny Walker backstage hanging out with the band he helped get the Megadeth support....and then threatening some curly blonde haired guy with violence who also happened to be backstage...that turned out to be Dave Mustaine.

prominent US Rock critic c.1971

the Drummer lives in NZ too although the minute I type this I forget his name.

Rick Laird of Mahavishnu Orchestra
if chops is the criteria then this Band is well qualified

Gary Thain -(check out gary thain.com), suffered severe electric shock onstage playing 'july morning' with uriah heep in dallas sept 15 1974, he was hospitalised and suffered poor health since; died a year later on dec 8 1975 some say a herion overdose, he was from christchurch, - i saw him with uriah heep the year before at western springs. i loved that band - "the beach boys of heavy metal.
