Replacement speaker for WCA115PRO cab

Hi all,

New to the forum here.

I'm based in Christchurch, and recently acquired a second hand setup comprising a Warwick Pro Tube IX with a Warwick WCA410 PRO and a WCA115 PRO cab.

Looks like I've blown the speaker in the 15" cab - stopped working at practice and I took it and and checked for resistance with a multimeter but couldn't get a reading. I understand this is common when the coil blows and opens up. Not an electronics pro by any means but from reading online this is what has happened.

The speaker in the cab was a Fostex brand 8-ohm with a 200w RMS - I'm not sure if this is an original speaker, and the head is 2x300w at 8 ohms so was probably overpowered by the look of things.

I'm looking for a replacement but I'm not sure where to start - I've looked at a couple online, namely an Eminence Delta 15LFA from Audioshop.co.nz or a Eminence Legend CB158 from Livesound.co.nz. Seems like it's reasonably difficult to find anything online regarding speaker repair locally (I'm in Christchurch).

Anyone have any advice on a) which of the two speakers listed above would be a suitable replacement and b) speaker repair in Christchurch?

Either driver would work OK in a ported cab, but neither is capable of keeping up with a 410. That's probably why the Fostex blew. The Fostex wasn't original, and most likely it replaced the original driver that blew for the same reason. A suitable 15 that can keep up with a 410 is the Kappa Pro 15 LF. You won't like the price, but pay once, cry once.

Bill - I don't really know much about speakers - is there any particular reason why the Kappa would be more suitable than the other two? Looks like it's slightly more expensive but I'd definitely rather pay the difference to not have to worry about it in the future.

Driver displacement. It's what limits how loud a cab can go. The average 410 has 500cc driver displacement. The Delta 15LF and CB158 have 411cc. That makes the 115 the weak link in the chain. This is one reason why the 115/410 combination is intrinsically flawed (the other is that 115s don't go any lower than 410s).
The Kappa Pro 15LF has 507cc displacement, so it's as capable as the average 410. An even better choice is the Kappalite 3015LF. Its displacement is 846cc.
