I'm all ears then timi,thanks again. :D

The only other experience I have had with a pup change is when i had my first "real" bass, brand new Ibanez SR1000E(1991ish ?).
I could never get to grips with the on board eq,a switch,a battery that I only discovered when it went flat, and lots of pots,But it Was a great bass to play (compared to the *BANNED* I owned before it) so I ditched all the factory electronics and put in some new EMG actives, and finally I could get what I wanted from it,best sound I ever had.

Played it for years, loved it to bits, then the drummer gave me the MIM Jazz to try about 10 ? years ago,(mine for $400) and that was the last time I ever played the Ibanez. :)

I have a pair of Nordstrand Dual Coils on my BTB1005. I also put an Audere 3 band HiZ EQ in the bass as well.

It's by far my best sounding bass and spanks the pants of my MIA deluxe Jazz 5

Nordstrand + Audere make great partners.

Samples recorded!
Interesting results, more than subtle but not night and day. Be hard to tell in a dense mix.....

Can anyone recommend somewhere that I can upload a high res mp3 (or wav)?

http://soundcloud.com/ is a great place to upload sound files.

I've had a set of NJ4SE in one of my Jazz basses and i loved them, swapped them out and got the bass routed for Big Splits which are great too... would mind trying out some dual coils too.

Sorry been suuuuuper busy.

Can't seem to embed this so please go to the following link to listen. MIM, then Rios then Nordstrands.
http://soundcloud.com/timi-1/jazz-pickups

Recorded on an 09 MIM Fender Jazz (alder body, maple board) with a pick and fairly new strings directly into the instrument input (ie DI) of my Apogee MiniMe. I've cranked the overall volume (normalized) but haven't done anything else to the file. Was going to do a mic'd sample of my rig but couldn't be bothered and it probably wouldn't be of interest to anyone since you don't have my rig.

Wow. Yeah I don't think you could tell in a mix at all. To my ear the mim and Nordstrands sounded similar. The Muy Grande sounded unique

Yep those two are pretty similar, both going for the classic 60s Jazz Bass sound I guess, but the Nordstrands are warmer and clearer to me.

All the samples sound weird to me because I'm not really into the straight DI sound, but for that sound I quite like the darker sound of the Rios. With my rig the Nordstrands are easily my favorite.

I'm doing an order to Nordstrand very soon. If anyone's keen on a Nordy or two, let me know ASAP.
