New lead time

Post by ZK-TUI » Thu May 26, 2011 3:43 pm

Ok, you're all gonna moan. "This has been asked so many times before!"

But, my Planet Waves lead is in-between working and crapping out. I need a new one. I am going to go into the RS where I got it soon but there's the large possibility that the cable is not in my account.
But I'm thinking of changing to more reliable leads, as I've been told by people in the past that Planet Waves don't stand up super well...

So whats good to go for - a moderate pricing though.
I have seen the name Monster Cables get tossed around in various places but not sure of their quality...
I'm also keen on a right angle lead, probably a bit easier to set up around my bass.

(Also what are the general opinions on EWI from Musicplanet? My head->cab plug is one of these, 5yr warranty, no problems so far.... but they seem very cheap...)

Cheers

proel make a decent line of cables at a good price - get that shizen at Jansen. and proco (makers of the Rat pedal) make good'uns, i'm still using mine that came with my Rat back in '90 or thereabouts.

otherwise if yr handy with a soldering iron, make yr own! :D if so, cable is pretty much cable; spend yr $$ on decent plugs.
i like rickenbackers. and fridges.

I have used the same Hotlines leads for 10 years. Right-angle plug on one end, and they come in 3m, 6m or 10m. Never had one go down in hundreds of gigs. Good price too. RS dont stock them but most other shops do. Can recommend MusicMania in Manukau City. They always have them.

There's a guy in Upper Hutt, whose name escapes me, who carries some of the same stuff as Jensen; he's all over TradeMe, so not too hard to find. You mentioned the EWI cables -- I have a couple and they've given me no problems. The advantage they have over the Planet Waves stuff is the removable plugs so they can be resoldered/replaced if necessary. As someone noted earlier, cable is pretty much cable, so ignore the audiophile garbage.

I've used the same Planet Waves cables for 5 years, they have done a reasonable number of gigs, been overseas and back, and never had a problem.

Maybe I should just try EWI then...? Just because they are cheap to buy and easy to fix.

A broken lead is quite the annoying problem. I've just recently found that it's a sporadic issue. It works but fuzzles in and out so not quite totally broken yet...
