What on board preamp to use?

Post by Jake » Thu Mar 07, 2013 7:32 pm

Hi everyone,
I just bought a set of Reflex Reds jazz bass pickups off trademe (for $6.50 inc postage). I'm thinking of installing them on a bass in the future, but I have read that they are active and will need an onboard preamp? The box that the seller sent me only had the pickups, no screws, preamp or controls.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Btw, here is the auction with a photo of the pups http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =564938757

I've not had a lot of experience with onboard preamps.
2 that I have liked are

Haz-Labs

and Bartolini.

the Barts have trim pots which is a good thing to muddle about with

the Haz-Labs is (I guess) pretty rare. But works a treat with EMG's . CK knows a bit about this, hopefully he chimes in.

I have only used Audere on board pre-amps. They're expensive but worth every penny.

John East preamps are very good, but not cheap.

Rock predominantly, but with a fair bit of jazz. I'd only be doing it to make my P bass a bit more versatile.
