Pressurewounds

Post by daniel » Thu Oct 02, 2014 3:19 pm

Has anyone here tried pressurewound strings?
and do you know where I can get some?
I want to try a set but cant find anywhere that sells them here.
like the GHS Pressurewounds, or Rotosound solo bass 55 sets.
(45-105-ish gauge)
I have only seen the Dean Markley Helix but they're a bit different.

I have used D'Addario half wounds on a number of basses over the last 25 years.
Currently I have Tobias strung with them which I find tames the top end enough so I can use this Bass live.

Pressure, Ground, Half could be arguably the same thing. Dave, CheeseBoy on Trade Me does D'Add not sure if he still has Markley or GHS. Also strings get packaged lots but not made with as much variety. :D

Pretty sure D'Add make GHS flats for example....

Pressurewounds aren't the same as ground or half wound,
with Pressurewounds the wrap is crushed before being wound on the string (so its more like an oval wound)
ground/half wound are roundwounds that have been ground down so they feel more like flats.

I've looked on Trademe and there were some GHS Pressurewounds a few weeks ago, but not in the gauge I wanted, but they aren't there anymore

Just ask your local musicworks, music planet, or independent to get the GHS for you. They are distributed by South Pacific Music, the parent of the Music Planet shops. D'Addario are distributed by Music Link, which is part of the NZ Rock Shops. Because they are a very slow moving item, it's not common for a retailer to carry them in stock, you will need to ask them to get them in. You could also check the Rock Shop or the Music Planet websites to see if they are listed.
