here we are 3 monthe down the track with the elixer nanoweb and they are starting to 'shed' right where i use my pick(directly over the neck pup) (i only use a pick on about 6 songs a gig), its not affecting the tone yet which after three months is brighter than any others ive used by a long way, its just a little off-putting seeing spiderman gloop coming off the string, if i was exclusively fingerstyle it would be ok, keep you posted.

o.k 5 months down the line with elixer nano web and my strings need a haircut, the nano has debrided considerably, tonewise they are somewhat bright but need replacing (other normal strings would be dead 'dead' by now )- i think i will go back to DR low riders for a while, thanks elixer, but no thanks.

How were the carvin strings Brendon?, could do with a reasonably priced set, next week for me its a set of DR low riders - or - if I can find a set - Rotosound swing bass 66s 5string set, anyone else recommend good strings?

We are out of the standard 105 Carvins the demand caught us with our pants down will have more soon we do also have the Skull stainless ones which are interesting in 2 ways stainless obvoiusly doesn't corrode but it also has more mass than steel and the equells all the right things for bass
I think they are around $35

On my fretted 5er i have about a year old EB super slinkies and i still like them.

Buying a Curbrow fretted 6 very soon and want a very light set with a bit of a different feel then the EBs, something not to bright, what would everyone reccomend and where to obtain them?

I play Super or Extra Slinkys but change em at least every 6 months. Too dull after that.
Would be keen to see pics of your new bass when you get it. 8)

Try DR Low Riders on the six - even tone, great mids. DR strings were voted most popular strings for 2008 by BassPlayer magazine in the U.S.

Looking for string experience and expertise...

What strings sound phat and bright and retain their BRIGHTNESS for the longest? Im a finger player that likes the twang of fresh new strings but have yet to discover a set that stay bright!

longest is a tough term.

For sheer twang I'm partial to the Bootsy Collins DR set. not cheap but sure are shiny.

D'Addario Pro Steels are very bright, but I do not think they retain it like the Bootsy's.
but there are so many variables I think it's try, try and try again.

warwick red label 45-105s for me, have tried quite a few others but always go back to these.

last well, bright and powerful, sound kinda like rotosounds but without the pinky-shredding roughness. cheap too, $30rrp...
i like rickenbackers. and fridges.

D'Addario

Prosteel and XL

Buy them off juststrings.com, 5 sets at a time and they work out landed here for super-long 5str sets, just a tad under $NZ40.00/set

Order them Monday, they turn up Friday.

In my experience, the D'Addarios last longer than DRs. I've not had good run with DRs, but then again other players wouldn't have anything else.

Strings are a passionate subject.

SIT's are all i'll ever use for 34" basses. best strings out there IMO.
Sadowsky XL's for 35".
