Boss BF-2B

Post by foal30 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 11:17 pm

lucked into this stomp box...fun, fun , fun.

Made in Japan
output, input (both standard guitar plugs)and 9v adapter input.

1 LED to indicate it is on.
4 dials/pots

Manual / Depth / Rate / Resolution

the first two activated to half way give a chorus like effect. I think a little playing around with this on owners individual Basses would enable a pretty useful sound (s). I was a little surprised by this but it's a good surprise.I found it wasn't "clinging" like some chorus effects can be.

But the reason you want this is for far out whooshing and "Jetplane" sounds. It's magic on pumping 8 notes... a great excuse to keep note selections at bare minimum.Crank the Rate and Res add Mids to your sound, even grab a pick and go to town.
Add in a Wah pedal and it's Funk madness time...I had to wear sunglasses in fact.

Like all the Boss stuff I have tried this is sturdy stuff, well made and solid. It is also really clean as far as adding noise/hum/crap to your sound...I found it has minimal volume jumps between off and on...but busting this at high/gig volume would mean prudent use of a Limiter I think.

Downside? Well Guitar legend Simon Ishtar tells me they don't make them any more! That is a problem but if you see one floating on good old TM don't be shy.
Also this is an effect that to my old ears suits higher range... on my 5 string I felt I had to "work" it to get it happening down very low. It can also be "touch sensitive" (which I think is a plus) and your right hand attack will very much spice the unit when all 4 pots are above 35%. I tend to play with my thumb/palm mute a lot ,mellow like... this unit however begs for a righteous thumping...I had to get some of Doug Wimbish's work out. It is not very often this happens.

So for a bit of high-end tonal variation, or a tasty studio overdub this unit is worth a look.
