What pickups would you throw in this beast?

So this is my first bass. Or, a googled image of the same model as my first bass. A samick stingray knockoff. It's not all that badly built but the electronics are poo, as are the tuners, so I thought i'd do it up a bit (gonna re-finish it as well).

I've never done anything like this before, and I don't really know what pickups would be good. I don't really want to go top of the line cause it's still a cheap bass at heart, so i'm just hoping to grab some recommendations of bang for buck humbucker style pickups.

Also an issue I can detect here is that it doesn't have the metal plate covering the electronics that those musicmen seem to have, so i'm guessing i'd have to drill holes if I wanted to add more control knobs. I could do this but i'd preferably avoid it.

So, reasonably priced pickups that would fit in this bass. Please and thank you!

Cheap MM options are pretty thin on the ground these days, but I have a Kent Armstrong one in my bass that I can sell you. That way I'll be forced to install my Nordstrand one at last!

Or you could buy the Nordy ;)

The next up the price list would be the Seymour Duncan, which is great value. PM or email for details,

Wrong size.

It looks like one might just fit into the hole left by the MM pickup, but with some funny looking spaces left unfilled.

Pickups, electronics, tuners, refinish...... You are spending a LOT of money on a cheap bass, be careful.

Personally I would sell it and pay a bit more for one of those new (and confusingly named) Sterling RAY34 Stingrays, if a Stingray is what you want.
