Where to go for repair/modification in Auckland

Post by Kiwihawk » Wed Oct 05, 2011 12:41 pm

I have a bass body that I created several years ago. It's showing signs of age, which I would like to address.

Part of the design was to use a Schaller suspended bridge. Over the years, the posts have rocked forward in the body sufficiently to render the bass unplayable. I want to replace the bridge with one that sits flat on the body, but there is an area that has been routed out that needs patched, preferably to match the rest of the top (see pic).

The leather dye I used to colour the wood has either faded or been absorbed into the body over time, leaving some splotchy spots.

I did not have sufficient tools when I first created it to add the bevel to the back of the body. I have always regretted that as it does not sit as comfortably as I would like it to.

I have e-mailed a couple of places in Auckland to see if they would undertake this sort of work, including Mr. Glyn and G-Spot Guitars, but I have had no response.

Can anyone point me in the direction of someone who could help me out?

Thanks. I saw his site but to be honest was quite put off that it would cost me $50 for a place in queue and another $150 for a quote before even touching the guitar.

Alternately, does anyone know where I can get my hands on some flame maple? I'm willing to have a go at the patch job myself, but have not been able to find a source for the wood.

To be fair, I believe those costs are for brand new builds.

Bass is now in Adrian's hands for the repairs and mods. Thanks for the advice.
