Where to get amps repaired? (In Ak)

If you're an instrument repairer, or you know of one you recommend then please let everyone know about them.

Hi Frenchbass
Welcome to the site :-)
I got some GK 10" speakers repaired around 6 months ago by Keith Prictor @ KP Electronics. Did a great job and he's on the shore. Top guy.
frenchbass wrote:Also...any recomendations for a new cab? The head's 4 ohm..and i think it's 700w (350w per channel?)
An idea on the cost of a speaker repair?
I've always been really happy with the sound from my GK 4x10" plus GK RB400. Always get lots of compliments as to how fat it is. But it's also got a lot to do with what type of bass you are using... and what type of sound you like. What is the brand cabinet that you have currently?

Excellent..

I'll look Keith up now. Currently using a warwick 4x10 (4x11 pro model) but i really don't like the tone of it....not bright or warm enough for my liking - could be a combination of the head and the cab - I've played my bass through my head and different combinations of cabs at various gigs and I always seem far more impressed with the other cabs I've used...Kinda gutting! haha.

With regards to electronics...any suggestions who to talk to about getting the wiring in my bass looked at? It's an active bass...and the sound has seen better days...just would like someone who knows about that to go "oh no...thats not good..it needs a new ________".

Wicked.

Keith can do the electrics too as well as setting up instruments etc. He's a v good guitarist and knows his stuff.
I recon the best thing would be to take your whole rig into one of the stores with a decent selection and chop and change the cabinet around.... I don't think there's any other way to do it.
Oh and do check out the cabinets with the lightweight Neodymium speakers.... lighter = easier to carry up stairs etc.

Yeah I've heard...sounds good to me!

I'm guessing they're heavier on the pocket though?

Bright and warm are kinda at two opposite ends of the spectrum....

Warwick cabs use Eminence speakers which a similar to what Ampeg use. I would call Ampeg cabs "warm" but others would call them "muddy". Maybe try one of their cabs that has a horn if you want bright (if you like horns that is), but at a guess it will probably sound similar to your Warwick. Maybe a high end Ashdown would suit you? Or maybe a 1x15 plus a 2x10 or 4x10 would suit you better?

take it on apro first and gig it before you buy (dont scratch it!) - best way to check it out - or at rehersal, just dont buy something soloed, especially in a showroom.

Rock shop is the warwick agent so I'd try their first.

I've also got a Warwick Profet 5.1 head that needs fixing - the DI is not working properly and the pots are a bit scratchy - might look up this KP Electronics guy - I know the Rock shop are the Warwick agents, but I'd prefer to take it straight to someone who is the actual repairer - so I can explain ecactly what is wrong
Problem is my band are gigging every weekend up until New Years so I'd need to get a 'loaner' amp from somewhere, unless I can take it in on a Monday to get fixed and pick it up on Friday?
Can't find any contact Details for KP Electronics online - anyone for a contact number for him??

Cheers
