Recommend somone to rewind vintage pickups

Post by Tim1 » Mon Sep 22, 2014 9:36 pm

I have a couple of vintage Fender pickups that at some stage I will get rewound - we are talking sixties here so I need someone who is knowledgeable about wire size, scatter winding etc. I could send them overseas, but I am sure there must be someone in this country who has the machine and skill to do this competently. Just wondering if there is someone out there who has had a similar job done and can recommend the right luthier - the guy I normally use no longer has a rewinding machine. Not in any rush as they are not sitting in a bass, just seems a shame not to have them ready to go when and if needed.
I have vaguely contemplated getting a machine myself from Stewmac, but I doubt that it would see sufficient use to justify the expense - not to mention my own limited experience in this area.
